A written deliverable
Every engagement ends in a document you keep and can hand to a co-founder, a board or a funder. The conversation is useful; the letter is the thing you paid for.
Services
BMEC is a bespoke consultancy. We work with you to craft something that sets the project up for technical and commercial success, which means the shape of the work follows what the project needs. What is consistent is how we begin, with a set of small, bounded entry points that each end in a written document you keep. Between them they cover most of what comes to us.
How an engagement starts
The first four are bounded reviews that end in a letter. The Discovery Phase is the full definition exercise a development programme gets scoped from. Each one has a fixed scope and a fixed price, agreed with you before anything starts.
For an idea you have not yet put in front of anyone qualified. A structured call and a short written read covering the strongest part, the weakest part, and whether it is worth pursuing at all.
60-minute call · one-page letter
Read more →For an idea you believe in but have not started building. We sanity-check the direction and point you at the funding that fits it, before you spend a year and a patent fee finding out the hard way.
Direction Letter · Funding Map
Read more →For a project about to get expensive. An independent techno-commercial read on what could go wrong, with a recommendation against each risk and a view on whether deeper work is warranted.
Risk register · Opinion Letter
Read more →For a project that has already gone wrong. A vendor who stopped delivering, IP you cannot trace, a funder milestone about to be missed, a unit cost the market will not carry. We establish what happened and what can be saved.
First call within days · Recovery Letter
Read more →The full definition exercise. Requirements, functional specification, system architecture and a development plan, ending in a fixed-price statement of work you can commit to with confidence.
Specs and architecture · fixed-cost SOW
Read more →If none of these fit
They exist so that starting with us is small and low-risk, and they are not the limit of what we take on. Describe what you are trying to build and we will scope something that fits it, or say plainly that we are not the right people for it.
Also available
We teach this material as well as apply it. Technical due diligence, intellectual property, regulated development and the engineering decisions that set what a product can become. Masterclasses, workshops, training series, keynotes and guest lectures.
What every engagement has in common
Every engagement ends in a document you keep and can hand to a co-founder, a board or a funder. The conversation is useful; the letter is the thing you paid for.
Agreed before we start. If the work turns out to need more than the engagement covers, we stop and tell you before going any further.
Raphael and Heidi run these themselves. You are not handed to an account manager, and the person who writes the letter is the person who read your material.
Including that the project should stop, that you do not need us yet, or that what you need is a lawyer. We would rather lose the next engagement than write a letter we do not believe.
Structured that way from day one, across every engagement and every deliverable. A mutual NDA is signed before we see anything.
Each one names the sensible next step, whether that is another engagement with us, a specialist we trust, or nothing at all for the next six months.
