  2. Engineering or R&DThe review establishes whether the project is a pure engineering task or still contains outstanding research. The paths separate here.
  3. Development plan or R&D roadmapAn engineering project gets a development plan and roadmap. A project with research outstanding gets an assessment report and a roadmap to close it.
  4. Project scopingRequirements, functional behaviour, system architecture and wireframes, written down.
  5. Fixed-cost SOWBoth paths end in a fixed-cost SOW, so the number is settled before any work begins.
